PARKERSBURG -- The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department is offering a limited number of COVID-19 vaccinations Sunday for people age 80 and older.
Beginning Sunday at 1 p.m., Wood County residents in the targeted age group can get the vaccine at a drive-through clinic on a first-come, first-served basis. According to a release from the Health Department, only 50 doses have been received so far.
The clinic will be set up in the MOVHD parking lot at 211 Sixth St. in Parkersburg and a number system will be implemented, the release said. Recipients will stay in their vehicle and receive a number. A nurse will then come to the vehicle to administer the vaccine.
"We do not anticipate a long (wait) once you receive your number," the release said.
People are asked to bring photo identification and to remain in the parking lot for a short time to make sure there are no reactions. A person cannot receive the vaccine if they received any other vaccine in the two weeks prior to Jan. 3.
"It is important for the public to understand that MOVHD is committed to vaccinating as many of our citizens as we can. This is only the first shipment, and more vaccines will be coming in the next few weeks," the release said.
Twenty-three additional COVID-19 deaths were reported Friday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, including a 68-year-old female and a 59-year-old male from Wood County.
As of Friday, 1,361 deaths have been reported in the state since March.
The most recent deaths also included people ranging in age from a 56-year-old man from Hampshire County to a 92-year-old woman from Kanawha County.
"To all who are grieving today: please know the sadness from the loss of your loved one is shared by your fellow West Virginians," DHHR Cabinet Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. "We must continue to support each other and work together as we face the months to come."

* Doddridge: 56 active, 198 recovered, 200 total confirmed, 57 total probable, 3,740 tests, 3 deaths.
* Gilmer: 79 active, 333 recovered, 333 total confirmed, 80 total probable, 6,512 tests, 1 death.
* Jackson: 282 active, 880 recovered, 1,096 total confirmed, 95 total probable, 18,126 tests, 29 deaths.
* Pleasants: 302 active, 267 recovered, 496 total confirmed, 78 total probable, 5,046 tests, 5 deaths.
* Ritchie: 70 active, 281 recovered, 298 total confirmed, 60 total probable, 5,903 tests, 7 deaths.
* Roane: 54 active, 253 recovered, 293 total confirmed, 19 total probable, 10,874 tests, 5 deaths.
* Tyler: 102 active, 269 recovered, 255 total confirmed, 118 total probable, 5,358 tests, 2 deaths.
* Wetzel: 130 active, 570 recovered, 436 total confirmed, 280 total probable, 9,907 tests, 16 deaths.

* 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Spring Valley Community Building, 62 Marshall Circle, Spring Valley.
