CHARLESTON -- Another 10 people from counties in the region have been confirmed as deaths from the virus, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said Friday.
The ten are among the additional 31 confirmed deaths from the virus in the 24-hour period between Thursday and Friday mornings, the department said in its Friday morning pandemic update. The death count from the COVID-19 coronavirus was at 1,733 people as of Friday morning.
The state has confirmed the deaths of a 72-year-old man from Pleasants County, a 93-year-old woman from Wood County, a 78-year-old woman from Gilmer County, a 90-year-old woman from Wood County, a 91-year-old woman from Wood County, a 72-year-old man from Wood County, a 72-year-old man from Wetzel County, an 89-year-old man from Wood County, a 98-year-old woman from Wood County and an 88-year-old man from Pleasants County. At least 36 people from West Virginia counties in the region have died from the virus since Monday.
Also confirmed were an 86-year-old woman from Greenbrier County, an 86-year-old woman from Monongalia County, a 73-year-old man from Marion County, a 90-year-old woman from Mercer County, an 87-year-old woman from Mercer County, a 67-year-old man from Upshur County, a 92-year-old man from Ohio County, a 94-year-old woman from Cabell County, a 47-year-old woman from Raleigh County, an 81-year-old man from Berkeley County, a 77-year-old woman from Lewis County, a 95-year-old woman from Ohio County, a 95-year-old man from Cabell County, a 78-year-old man from Kanawha County, an 82-year-old man from Tucker County, a 71-year-old man from Logan County, a 93-year-old woman from Greenbrier County, an 84-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 52-year-old man from Marion County, an 80-year-old man from Putnam County and an 80-year-old woman from Putnam County.
Condolences were expressed by Bill J. Crouch, secretary of Health and Human Resources.
"We are deeply saddened by this news, a loss to both the families and to our state." Crouch said.
The state has administered 117,246 first doses of the 132,700 first doses received. Of the 28,275 second doses received, 21,599 have been administered.
Patients in a hospital totaled 717 on Friday with 195 in an intensive care unit and 102 on ventilators.
Total positive test results since the pandemic began in March was at 106,649 cases, an increase of 1,430 between Thursday and Friday, with 27,016 active cases. The daily positivity rate is 5.17 percent and the cumulative is 5.46 percent.

* Jackson: 180 active, 1,221 recovered, 1,295 cumulative confirmed, 147 cumulative probable, 20,877 tests, 41 deaths.
* Pleasants: 62 active, 631 recovered, 605 cumulative confirmed, 99 cumulative probable, 5,702 tests, 11 deaths.
* Ritchie: 93 active, 387 recovered, 405 cumulative confirmed, 83 cumulative probable, 6,809 tests, eight deaths.
* Roane: 70 active, 315 recovered, 354 cumulative confirmed, 37 cumulative probable, 11,673 tests, 6 deaths.
* Tyler: 115 active, 354 recovered, 306 cumulative confirmed, 166 cumulative probable, 6,355 tests, 3 deaths.
* Wetzel: 163 active, 688 recovered, 511 cumulative confirmed, 357 cumulative probable, 9,973 tests, 17 deaths.
* Wirt: 45 active, 238 recovered, 224 cumulative confirmed, 60 cumulative probable, 3,372 tests, 1 death.
* Wood: 860 active, 5,057 recovered, 4,506 cumulative confirmed, 1,487 probable, 69,387 tests, 76 deaths.
