PARKERSBURG -- The Towne Square building will be put up for sale and the Wood County Commission was one of the first groups offered the chance to buy it.
Wood County Commissioners Blair Couch and Bob Tebay took a phone call from owner Bob Margolis to discuss the matter. Commissioner Jimmy Colombo was absent from Thursday's meeting.
Margolis said they were on the verge of possibly putting the building up for sale.
"We wanted to talk to you guys first," he said. "We have had discussions over the years about the building."
County officials said the last time they discussed anything about the building was six to eight years ago.
Couch asked for an outline of what was being offered and at a later meeting the commission could discuss details more in depth.
The building, which is near the Wood County Courthouse, currently has a number of apartment units, the Office of the Public Defenders Corporation, a parking garage and more.
"I am not sure to what extent you want to sell that building," Couch said.
Margolis said they were open to selling the entire building, but they are also considering keeping the apartment building because that fits into their primary business.
They were looking at options.
County officials requested financial information about the income the building generates.
The commission is planning to put the matter on a future meeting date when they will be able to call Margolis and discuss it during a closed door session.
No asking price was mentioned Thursday.
