Wood County crash results in two fatalities

MINERAL WELLS -- An accident on Wednesday afternoon near Slate Creek on W.Va. 14 between Mineral Wells and Elizabeth resulted in two fatalities, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Office.
A Toyota truck with a trailer attached and another red subcompact vehicle crashed in a head-on collision and struck a gas meter, causing a gas leak, according to Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens.
At approximately 3:13 p.m. Wednesday, units from the Wood County Sheriff's Office, Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department, Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department and EMS services responded to the scene.
The Wood County Crash Team was also dispatched to the scene, according to Stephens.
The two individuals in the red vehicle were pronounced dead at the time of arrival by emergency services, Stephens said.
The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was able to decline further EMS medical care, he said.
The identities of those involved in the accident were not released Wednesday evening.
Dominion Energy also responded to the scene to shut off the gas line before the scene could be fully addressed, according to Stephens.
