PARKERSBURG -- If you're a stickler for details, Friday might not meet the technical definition of a white Christmas.
According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, that means having at least an inch of snow on the ground.
But snow is expected to start falling on Christmas Eve in Parkersburg, and it won't be melting by the next morning, even if the accumulation doesn't quite measure up, said Andy Roche, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston.
"That 1 inch might not materialize, but it will be white," he said.
An arctic cold front will move through the area this week. The NWS forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of precipitation Thursday.
"The precipitation may start with rain, but the very cold air will transition that precipitation into snow very quickly," Roche said.
The high on Friday is predicted to be just 23.
"Anything that precipitates on Christmas, it will be white, it will be snow, because of the temperatures," Roche said.
