Thirty people including three from Wood and Ritchie counties are among the confirmed deaths this weekend from the virus in West Virginia where the count of confirmed fatalities was 968 as of Sunday morning, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources.
The department said it confirmed two deaths in the 24-hour period from Saturday to Sunday morning and 28 in the 24 hours between Friday and Saturday morning.
Fatalities announced on Saturday include 64-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman from Wood County and a 76-year-old woman from Ritchie County.
Also, deaths confirmed from the virus announced this weekend included a 69-year-old man from Greenbrier County, a 66-year-old man from Cabell County, an 82-year old female from Cabell County, a 95-year-old man from Putnam County, a 77-year-old man from Greenbrier County, a 75-year old female from McDowell County, a 95-year-old woman from Mason County, a 61-year-old woman from Mason County, a 66-year-old woman from Mineral County, a 101-year-old woman from Mineral County, a 96-year-old man from Mineral County, a 98-year-old woman from Mineral County, a 79-year-old man from Mingo County, a 67-year-old man from Mineral County, an 82-year-old man from Cabell County, a 75-year-old woman from Grant County, a 61-year-old woman from Putnam County, a 90-year-old woman from Marshall County, a 91-year-old man from Boone County, a 77-year-old man from Putnam County, a 93-year-old man from Kanawha County, an 82-year-old man from Brooke County, an 86-year-old woman from Lincoln County, an 85-year-old man from Cabell County, an 80-year-old man from Grant County, a 91-year-old man from Kanawha County and an 89-year-old man from Logan County.
“I offer my deepest sympathy to all who are grieving these losses today,” department Secretary Bill J. Crouch said.
Of the 1,312,273 total confirmatory laboratory results received for the virus as of Sunday, 63,217 were positive cases, an increase of 1,066 from Saturday to Sunday. Positive cases increased 1,514 from Friday to Saturday.
The daily positivity rate is 5.58 percent and the cumulative rate since the pandemic began is 4.06 percent.
Current active cases as of Sunday was 20,657 with 702 people in a hospital, 188 in an intensive care unit and 79 on ventilators.

Wood County on Saturday was removed from red status and placed on orange status in the Department of Education pandemic map. Red and orange are the most restrictive, red the highest, for extracurricular activities and sports and require remote learning.
Ritchie, Wirt and Tyler counties were among the 14 red counties in the state.
Also orange were Doddridge, Jackson and Pleasants counties. Twenty-two counties are orange.
Calhoun, Gilmer and Roane counties are gold.

Ninth St., Williamstown; 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Wednesday, Coplin Health Systems, 483 Court St., Elizabeth; noon-3 p.m. Thursday, New Hope Baptist Church, 1777 Rosemar Road, Vienna; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Mineral Wells Elementary School; noon-4 p.m. Friday, Ritchie Regional health Center, 135 S. Penn Ave., Harrisville.
The state listed testing events for Tuesday: at Jackson County: 1 p.m.-5 p.m., Ravenswood Senior Center, 511 Washington St., Ravenswood.
For Thursday: 9 a.m.-noon, Jackson County Health Department, 504 Church St., Ripley.
