CHARLESTON -- The death toll from the virus in West Virginia passed the 1,000 mark Tuesday, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources.
Thirty-four deaths have been confirmed in the 24-hour period from Monday morning to Tuesday morning, raising the number of dead from the COVID-19 coronavirus since the pandemic began to 1,012, the department said in its Tuesday morning update.
The death list included a 52-year-old man from Ritchie County, a 63-year-old woman from Pleasants County, an 84-year-old man from Roane County and a 78-year-old woman from Jackson County.
The state also confirmed the deaths of a 94-year-old woman from Harrison County, a 41-year-old woman from Berkeley County, a 66-year-old woman from Cabell County, an 86-year-old man from Monroe County, an 86-year-old woman from Monongalia County, a 72-year-old woman from Hardy County, a 72-year-old woman from Wayne County, a 76-year-old woman from Fayette County, a 92-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 89-year-old man from Greenbrier County, an 89-year-old man from Mineral County, a 92-year-old man from Hardy County, a 96-year-old man from Mineral County, an 80-year-old woman from Mineral County, a 78-year-old man from Mineral County, an 82-year-old woman from Mason County, a 78-year-old man from Taylor County, a 78-year-old man from Hancock County, a 67-year-old woman from Mineral County, an 89-year-old woman from Putnam County, a 74-year-old woman from Morgan County, a 50-year-old man from Marshall County, a 63-year-old woman from Mercer County, a 94-year-old woman from Cabell County, an 81-year-old woman from Cabell County, a 68-year-old man from Summers County, a 76-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 79-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 83-year-old woman from Kanawha County and a 92-year-old man from Kanawha County.
The state reported 65,708 positive test results from the 1,330,401 tests performed. Positive cases increase 1,314 from Monday to Tuesday. Active cases totaled 21,091 and 43,605 cases have recovered. The daily positivity rate is 9.61 percent and the cumulative is 4.14 percent. Hospitalizations rose by 50 from Monday to Tuesday to 774 with 207 patients in an intensive care unit and 80 on ventilators.

According to the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, testing events will be held: 8-11 a.m. today, Coplin Health Systems, 483 Court St., Elizabeth; noon-3 p.m. Thursday, New Hope Baptist Church, 1777 Rosemar Road, Vienna; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Mineral Wells Elementary School; noon-4 p.m. Friday, Ritchie Regional Health Center, 135 S. Penn Ave., Harrisville.
