CHARLESTON -- No additional Mid-Ohio Valley residents have been added to the state's COVID-19 death toll on Monday, but infection rates are continuing to climb.
However, there were still nine deaths reported across the state in Hampshire County, Cabell County, Monongalia County, Greenbrier County and Kanawha County confirmed in Monday's update from the state Department of Health and Human Resources. These people ranged in age from 45 to 99.
"As we continue to see COVID-19 cases increase, it is important for us to remember the brave men and women in health care who are on the front lines of this pandemic," said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. "These heroes take care of our loved ones and provide comfort in a time of great need. Our sincere sympathies are expressed to these families for their loss."
The West Virginia DHHR reported as of Dec. 28, there have been 1,456,625 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 81,436 total cases and 1,263 deaths.
The state of West Virginia is reporting that 30,737 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of Monday morning.
Carrie Brainard, Threat Preparedness Coordinator with the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, said Monday the health department was not doing testing in the region except for at Arnoldsburg Elementary in Arnoldsburg, W.Va.
The area has gotten a supply of vaccines but the priority has been for first responders and front line health care workers.
"We did get in several vials of vaccine but it is for first responders, health department staff and fire departments at this time," she said.
No other local information was released Monday.
