CHARLESTON -- Twenty-one confirmed deaths from the COVID-19 virus between Monday and Tuesday mornings were reported Tuesday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The state also reported 1,468,110 total confirmatory laboratory results have been received for COVID-19, with 82,773 total positive cases, an increase of 1,337 cases in the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday mornings.
The death toll from the virus is 1,284 as of Tuesday morning, the state said.
Confirmed deaths were of a 90-year-old man from Marshall County, a 74-year-old man from Hancock County, a 71-year-old man from Pendleton County, an 80-year-old man from Greenbrier County, an 86-year-old woman from McDowell County, a 62-year-old man from Marshall County, a 67-year-old woman from Greenbrier County, an 89-year-old man from Cabell County, an 84-year-old man from Tucker County, a 95-year-old man from Monongalia County, a 91-year-old man from Putnam County, an 80-year-old woman from Cabell County, an 81-year-old woman from Preston County, an 88-year-old woman from Greenbrier County, a 91-year-old man from Monongalia County, an 80-year-old woman from Hancock County, a 93-year-old woman from Wyoming County, a 76-year-old woman from Monongalia County, an 81-year-old woman from Berkeley County, an 85-year-old woman from Hancock County and an 81-year-old woman from Harrison County.
"Each loss is a heartbreak to a family and to our state," department Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. "I urge you to remember that your actions for safety result in saving the lives of your family, neighbors and friends."
Active cases total 24,264 with 57,225 cases recovered. The daily positivity rate is 10.45 percent and the cumulative rate is 4.72 percent.
The state has received 72,175 doses of vaccine and has vaccinated 34,474 people.
The state reported 761 people in a hospital, of which 213 are in intensive care and 98 are on ventilators.

∫ Calhoun: 23 active cases, 104 recovered, 115 cumulative confirmed, 12 cumulative probable, 4,976 tests, 0 deaths.
∫ Doddridge: 61 active, 174 recovered, 185 cumulative confirmed, 53 cumulative probable, 3,527 tests, 3 deaths.
∫ Gilmer: 109 active, 276 recovered, 303 cumulative confirmed, 83 cumulative probable, 6,249 tests, 1 death.
∫ Jackson: 227 active, 873 recovered, 1,040 cumulative confirmed, 89 cumulative probable, 17,442 tests, 29 deaths.
∫ Pleasants: 325 active, 226 recovered, 479 cumulative confirmed, 77 cumulative probable, 4,822 tests, 5 deaths.
∫ Ritchie: 60 active, 263 recovered, 277 cumulative confirmed, 53 cumulative probable, 5,823 tests, 7 deaths.
