CHARLESTON -- Coronavirus deaths reached 361 on Monday in West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources said.
The department has confirmed the deaths of a 53-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 86-year-old woman from Kanawha County and a 70-year-old woman from Putnam County, the department said. Condolences were offered by department Secretary Bill Crouch.
"We extend our sympathies as we mourn this loss to both the families and our state," Crouch said.
The department in its Monday morning update said there have been 596,040 total confirmatory laboratory results received for the virus with 16,742 total positive cases, an increase of 114 over the 24-hour period from Sunday morning.
The state reported 4,330 active cases with 165 people in the hospital, 60 in intensive care units and 28 on ventilators. The daily positivity rate is 1.52 percent.
Reported cases per county are: Calhoun (27), Doddridge (32), Gilmer (49), Jackson (291), Pleasants (18), Ritchie (13), Roane (56), Tyler (17), Wirt (12) and Wood (382).
Free virus testing will be 1-4 p.m. today in Doddridge County at Doddridge County Park, 1252 Snowbird Road, West Union.
The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, in conjunction with DHHR, is providing free COVID-19 testing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at South Parkersburg Baptist Church, 1655 Blizzard Drive, Parkersburg. The testing is available to all individuals in Wood County, even those without symptoms. Proof of insurance is not required.
Attendees are asked to bring identification, such as a driver's license or proof of address, and those younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The testing is part of a state initiative to increase testing for all West Virginians, particularly minorities and vulnerable populations.
