Virus cases reported at Belpre, St. Mary’s Elementary, Marietta City Schools, Marietta College

Positive cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the Belpre City Schools and St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School in Marietta, the commissioner of the Marietta-Belpre Health Department Friday morning said.

Health Commissioner Anne Goon said a student in Belpre and a student at St. Mary’s have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Earlier on Thursday, Marietta City Schools confirmed a case of the coronavirus.

A member of the staff has tested positive, but students would not have interacted with the employee, Marietta schools Superintendent Will Hampton said. Employees have been notified of the confirmation of the virus.

Marietta College Thursday also reported a positive case of the virus, raising the total to six confirmed active cases at the school, five students and an employee. Contact tracing is underway, the college said.

Goon also reported there are 30 active and 56 recovered cases in Marietta and Belpre as of Friday. The increase in cases in the past 30 days was 27.7 percent in Washington County and 61.1 percent in the cities of Marietta and Belpre in the past month, she said.
