PARKERSBURG -- A complete draft of the City of Parkersburg's 2030 Comprehensive Plan has been submitted and will be available for feedback from the public in the next couple of weeks.
Mandated by state law for municipalities to draft every 10 years, the plan is intended to serve as "a blueprint for future expansion and management of land use, housing, economic development, transportation and public services," according to a news release from the city.
It was completed by the city Development Department, working with the PKB 2030 Steering Committee, the Municipal Planning Commission and consultants from McBride Dale Clarion.
Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Parkersburg is invited to make comments about the plan after it is posted online at www.pkb2030.org, beginning Oct. 30.
An open house will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Parkersburg Art Center for community members to learn more about the plan, ask questions of city leaders and provide feedback to the Steering Committee. Attendees can arrive any time during the two-hour event. State mask and social-distancing orders will be observed.
"Our community's success is due in great part to the collaborative work amongst our city employees, local business owners, nonprofit organizations and civically engaged residents," Mayor Tom Joyce said in the release. "I look forward to discussing the contents of the plan with citizens."
The process of creating the plan for Parkersburg began in early 2020, and included an online survey and public workshops.
The 2030 Comprehensive Plan will be reviewed by the Municipal Planning Commission at a Dec. 1 public hearing, then go before Parkersburg City Council Dec. 8. The second and final reading before council is scheduled for Dec. 22.
