WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport is continuing its projects and has completed extensive training with its employees.
The roof project for the main terminal building will begin Monday and following its completion, work will begin on the roof of the general aviation building, according to Airport Manager Glen Kelly.
The LED lighting project, which was hoped to begin in November, has been postponed until March due to a shortage of needed supplies.
"They couldn't get all the parts they needed to build our systems. Everything is approved, (but) they can't get the parts they need to manufacture the items," Kelly said.
Kelly approached the Wood County Commission to request help with funding for projects and the commission gave the airport $50,000. The Wood County Airport Authority will help to decide how to use those funds.
"I will be coming back to the board with recommendations. I am happy they supported us with $50,000," Kelly said.
The airport in September conducted several trainings in the areas of safety, communication and active shooter exercises.
"We did the full-scale triennial exercise where we had multiple fire departments, ours and the State Police. We actually closed the airport for three hours and let them go to multiple sites to practice the things they need to find the things they need to like the designated temporary morgue, triage center and to make sure they were all briefed and shown where all the fire hydrants are," Kelly said.
Communication between the airport and local first responders has greatly improved, Kelly said.
"Now we can actually communicate from our fire truck to the Waverly and Williamstown fire trucks," Kelly said. "That's a marked improvement in communications between the airport and our first responders."
Five employees were recently added to their staff after the retirement of a few employees and were able to participate in the training.
The airport had 262 emplanements last month and for the month of October so far, Contour Airlines said the numbers should be right on track with what they were last year.
Fuel sales for last month were 38,000 gallons.
