Car chase, alleged assault keep Parkersburg authorities busy

PARKERSBURG -- Parkersburg area law enforcement had their hands full over the weekend as several arrests were made including one man being charged with fleeing in a vehicle causing injury and another man charged with malicious assault.
Ronnie Allen Rush, 33, 7641 Pike St. Lot 10, Mineral Wells, last known address, was arrested Friday after he was found driving a reportedly stolen vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed with Wood County Magistrate Court.
The officer attempted to conduct at traffic stop but it resulted in a chase which began at the 800 block of Virginia Avenue and went through Camden Street along the railroad tracks when the vehicle failed to run after it had hit a utility pole, the complaint said.
The vehicle, driven by Rush, reached a top speed of 90 miles per hour throughout the chase, the complaint said. Rush had also run through a stop sign and traveled the wrong way on a one-way street a few times, the complaint said.
After the vehicle had stopped, Rush fled from the car on foot and was tased and taken into custody, the complaint said.
The passenger, Travis Wineman, 20, was also arrested on unrelated warrants and is awaiting arraignment, according to the Parkersburg Police Department.
Rush was being held at North Central Regional Jail on a $300,000 surety bond.
Charles Michael Cottrill, 25, 565 1/2 6th St., Parkersburg was also arrested over the weekend after a dispute between him, his ex-girlfriend and another male became violent, according to a criminal complaint filed with Wood County Magistrate Court.
His ex-girlfriend and another victim said Cottrill struck her in the face with a closed fist and while the other male victim tried to interfere, Cottrill pulled a knife on him, the complaint said.
The male victim had a large laceration on his forearm and Cottrill's ex-girlfriend received a small laceration on her finger, the complaint said. Cottrill also put his ex-girlfriend in a choke hold, she claimed, and she bit him to try and get away, the complaint said.
At one point, all three were on the ground and Cottrill received a small laceration to his throat due to an altercation with a knife.
Cottrill is being charged with malicious/unlawful assault and was being held at North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 surety bond.
