PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Commission picked an accounting firm Monday to handle its 2020 county audit.
Commissioners Blair Couch and Bob Tebay picked Perry and Associates of Parkersburg to conduct the audit. Commissioner Jimmy Colombo was absent due to a personal matter.
Wood County Clerk Mark Rhodes said the county put out notices it was accepting proposals to handle the audit. Three proposals were received, including Perry and Associates. The other two firms included Maher Duessel of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Suttle Stalnaker of Parkersburg.
Rhodes, County Administrator Marty Seufer and Wood County Prosecutor Pat Lefebure evaluated the three firms and the prices to do the work. They rated each one.
"Perry and Associates came out as the top vendor," Rhodes said.
Past audits are available on the county's website under the County Clerk's office for public access.
In other business, the county is asking people to participate in a survey in developing comprehensive plans for Wood County, the City of Vienna and the Town of Williamstown.
The survey, which can be accessed through the county's website, is being led by Michael Dougherty, Professor and Extension Specialist, WVU Extension Service, Family and Community Development.
If people decide to participate, they will be asked their opinion on the future direction and preferred development activities for the county and the included municipalities, according to a letter from Dougherty the commission recently released.
The letter said the survey would only take around 10 minutes to complete. Participants must be 18 years old or older. The information gained is kept as confidential as possible. The survey does not ask people to identify themselves directly.
"We hope that you will participate in this research project, as it could help us better understand the desired future for Wood County, its residents, business owners, community leaders and government officials," Dougherty said in the letter. "This survey will be available to complete through at least Oct. 31, 2020."
