CHARLESTON -- The Department of Health and Human Resources this weekend reported another 13 confirmed deaths from the virus since Friday morning for a total of 310 in West Virginia.
The department in its 10 a.m. Sunday update reported two deaths since its Saturday update when it reported 11 confirmed deaths in the 24-hour period since Friday.
The state said it has confirmed the deaths of a 67-year-old man from Cabell County, a 62-year-old woman from Raleigh County, a 79-year-old woman from Raleigh County, an 81-year-old man from Putnam County, a 93-year-old woman from Putnam County, a 71-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 78-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 72-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 66-year-old man from Mercer County, a 79-year-old man from Mercer County, and a 48-year-old man from Hardy County, a 79-year-old man from Kanawha County and an 81-year-old woman from Putnam County.
On Sunday morning, the Department of Health and Human Resources reported 513,967 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19 with 14,054 total cases, an increase of 180 since Saturday morning. Confirmed cases jumped 161 from Friday to Saturday, 13,683 to 13,844.
The state reported 3,518 active cases with 167 patients in the hospital, 55 in intensive care units and 29 on ventilators. The daily infection rate on Sunday was 2.73 percent.
The number of cases reported Sunday in local counties were: Calhoun (24) up one, Doddridge (18) no change, Gilmer (27) up six, Jackson (247) down nine, Pleasants (17) up one, Ritchie (10) no change, Roane (49) up two, Tyler (15) no change, Wirt (10) no change, Wood (348) up one.
A testing site will be open this week in Jackson and other counties, the department said.
