CHARLESTON -- A Doddridge County resident is among the deaths from the virus reported Friday morning by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
Five more deaths were confirmed from the COVID-19 coronavirus in a 24-hour period from Thursday morning, raising the death toll in the pandemic to 330 in West Virginia, according to the department's 10 a.m. Friday update.
Condolences were expressed by Bill J. Crouch, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources.
"The continued loss of West Virginians weighs heavily on all of us," Crouch said. "During this difficult time for our state and nation, we extend our deepest sympathy."
Confirmed were the deaths of a 67-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 69-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 94-year-old man from Harrison County, a 58-year-old man from Doddridge County and a 67-year-old woman from Mercer County.
The state reported as of 10 a.m.Friday there have been 535,018 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19 with 14,953 total cases. Total cases increased by 247 positve cases for the virus, the seventh time since Aug. 31 the increase was above 200 over a 24-hour period
Active cases as of Friday morning were 3,655, an increase of 105 since Thursday morning, with 177 people in a hospital, a high so far in the pandemic. Fifty-nine people were in an intensive care unit and 31 on ventilators.
The daily infection rate on Friday morning was 3.53 percent .
The case counts reported Friday in local counties were: Calhoun (25) no change, Doddridge (22) up three, Gilmer (43) up four, Jackson (259) up one, Pleasants (17) up one, Ritchie (12) up one, Roane (49) no change, Tyler (16) up one, Wirt (12) no change and Wood (356) no change.
No counties were reported in the red on the Department of Health and Human Resources County Alert System map on Friday.
