Vienna parade to salute first responders

VIENNA — A parade to honor all the emergency responders in the region will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in Vienna.

Vehicles will assemble around at 60th Street on Grand Central Avenue for the procession toward the Grand Central Mall, Mayor Randy Rapp said.

The parade is to honor and recognize the service of first and emergency responders, not only during the pandemic, he said.

Requests and invitations for participation have been made to numerous fire departments, emergency and ambulance squads and law enforcement agencies, Rapp said.

“We’ve asked all responders in Wood and Washington and all of the cities that are around us,” the mayor said.

The processional will travel on Grand Central Avenue toward the mall where it will turn into the Grand Central Mall parking lot at the north entrance, Rapp said. The parade will make a lap around the mall parking lot, he said.

Spectators also are urged to attend and watch the parade from their vehicles on Grand Central Avenue or at the mall parking lot where they can wave to the parade from their parked cars and toot horns in appreciation of the responders’ service.

The parade will end at the mall, Rapp said. No events or commemorations will be held or speeches given by local officials, he said.

“It will be a nice show,” Rapp said.
