PARKERSBURG -- A driver killed in an accident on West Virginia 68 on Tuesday afternoon was identified by the Wood County Sheriff's Department.
Gregory Lyons, 65, of Parkersburg was killed in the two-vehicle accident between a semi-truck and a small car at W.Va. 68, Harris Highway, and Lake Washington Road, the department said in a release on Wednesday.
The initial investigation determined the truck was traveling south on Harris Highway and the small car was pulling out of Lake Washington Road at the stoplight, the department said.
The truck hit the car on the driver's side and shoved it down the highway before both vehicles came to rest, the department said.
Lyons, who was entrapped in the vehicle, died in the accident, medical and fire personnel advised, the department said.
Christopher Morgan, 28, Parkersburg, the driver of the truck, was uninjured, the department said.
The accident happened about 12:45 p.m.
The crash is under investigation by the Wood County Crash Team. Agencies responding were the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department, St. Joseph's Ambulance, Wood County Coroner's Office, state Department of Highways, officers from the West Virginia Public Service Commission Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Pifer's Towing.
