WILLIAMSTOWN -- The grant to secure funds for the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport main terminal roofing project was announced Tuesday by the Federal Aviation Administration.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced the award of $273 million for airport safety and infrastructure projects around the country.
"This $273 million federal investment in our nation's airports will strengthen safety, improve travel, generate jobs and benefit local communities," Chao said.
The Mid-Ohio Regional Airport was awarded $562,233 for the main terminal roof.
According to Glen Kelly, airport manager, those funds still need to be approved by the Wood County Airport Authority, who will meet next week.
Kelly said they weren't expecting the grant funds until September but he's glad it happened sooner than anticipated.
The airport is hoping to complete the roof before starting the LED and electrical upgrade project which could take a few months to complete.
"This doesn't hurt us at all. This is very helpful (but) the paperwork is still not done," Kelly said.
Six other airports in the state received grants including the Jackson County Airport, which was awarded $60,000 to construct a terminal building.
"The safety of our nation's airports is of paramount importance to the FAA," said FAA Administrator Stephen M. Dickson. "These grants will allow these necessary projects to continue."
