PARKERSBURG -- Parkersburg High School has announced plans for its senior parade and graduation practice.
Principal Kenny DeMoss released the information this week via an all-call to parents and seniors as well as posting information on Facebook.
PHS graduation will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 26 at Stadium Field. Graduation ceremonies for all three public Wood County Schools were delayed by a month due to a statewide shutdown of schools to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19, also known as coronavirus.
Wood County Schools this week released safety guidelines for graduates and family attending the ceremonies.
DeMoss said several events will lead up to next week's graduation ceremony, beginning with a Senior Color Day at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at the school.
"Students will be able to line up in the horseshoe starting at 8:30 a.m.," he said. "We will begin festivities with the raising of our senior flag at 10 a.m. and the parade will start there afterward."
DeMoss said there will be limits to how many passengers can be in a single vehicle and trucks cannot have riders in their truck beds. No trailers or floats will be allowed
"All vehicles will be checked coming into the horseshoe and leaving for the parade for compliance," he said. "There will be no exceptions to these rules."
Students are encouraged to maintain social distance and wear masks while decorating vehicles.
The parade, which will travel Washington Ave. and circle City Park, will end at the school. Graduation practice will begin at 11 a.m. at Stadium Field.
"During practice we will be distributing packets to (graduates) that will include honor cords and other important information," DeMoss said. Students voted in a recent phone survey to pick up graduate yard signs at the event. Seniors not participating in Color Day are still asked to attend the 11 a.m. graduation practice.
A senior night raffle also will be held at graduation practice, and a student must be present to win.
DeMoss said the June 26 graduation ceremony will occur rain or shine, but in the event of dangerous weather will be postponed to 2 p.m. June 27.
