Kimes beats Little in 9th District race

PARKERSBURG -- With the unofficial tally in the House of Delegates Districts 9 and 10 will have new representation while incumbent candidates and Democratic candidates in the 8th District race and the State Senate District 3 race will move forward to the general election in November.

In the 9th District race, Republican challenger D. Shannon Kimes (1,205 votes) beat Republican incumbent Charles "Chuck" Little (842 votes).

Kimes said he was "totally shocked" Tuesday evening. Kimes has previously ran for the House.

''It is nice that after five tries, I finally made it out of the primary,'' he said. ''I thank everyone for their vote.

''I am really looking forward to to the General Election in November."

Little, who was appointed to the seat in May 2019, could not be reached for comment. This was his first campaign for office.

There were six candidates running for the three available seats for the House of Delegates District 10.

Incumbent Republicans Vernon Criss (3,949) and John Kelly (3,977) led in votes to retain their seats.

The other candidates were Republican Roger Conley (3,514), Republican Matt Dodrill (2,407), Democrat Trish Pritchard (3,402) and Democrat Luke Winters (2,326).

Criss, Kelly and Conley will move on to the general election in November as the top Republican vote getters. Both Pritchard and Winters also will move on to the general election as the only Democratic candidates.

Conley said he was thrilled and happy with how the primary turned out.

He was thankful for the people who came out and voted for him.

''The work will now begin,'' Conley said of getting ready for the November election. ''We worked hard to get every vote and now we will work harder to earn the votes in November.''

In the 8th District race, incumbent Republican Bill Anderson (1,994) and Democrat Andrew Alvarez (1,284) had no challengers and will face each other in the general election in November.

In the race for the West Virginia Senate District 3 seat incumbent Republican Donna Boley and Democrat Robert "Robin" Wilson Jr. ran unopposed for their party's nomination. Both will face each other in the November election.

Boley received 8,597 votes in Wood County, 432 in Wirt County and 805 in Pleasants County while Wilson received 5,293 votes in Wood County, 346 in Wirt County and 685 in Pleasants County. The results for Roane County were not available at presstime.
