Juvenile injured in Hocking County ATV accident

LAURELVILLE, Ohio — The Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle injury crash that occurred on Sams Creek Road in Salt Creek Township, Hocking County.

A 10-year-old child was injured in an ATV accident Thursday in Hocking County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Sylar Sam-Lynch, Laurelville, was traveling north on Sams Creek Road in a 2004 Polaris ATV and failed to maintain control, the patrol said. The ATV went off the left side of the road, struck a utility pole and the overturned, the patrol said.

The operator sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the patrol said. The crash is under investigation.

Troopers on scene were assisted by the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Laurelville Fire Department and Hocking County EMS.

The patrol also reminded riders to always wear a helmet and safety glasses. The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m.
