Candidates seeking seats in U.S. House of Representatives
Two Democrats and one Republican are running for U.S. House of Representatives in District 1 and two Republicans and one Democrat are running in the 2nd Congressional District.
In District 1 on the Republican ticket is incumbent David McKinley. Democrats running are Natalie Cline and Tom Payne.
For District 2 on the Republican ticket are incumbent Alex Mooney and Matthew Hahn. Running for the Democratic nomination is Cathy Kunkel.
Early voting starts today and the primary election is June 9.
McKinley, of Wheeling, has represented District 1 in the House of Representatives since 2011. He is the founder of McKinley and Associates, an architectural and engineering firm, and sits on the Committee on Energy and Commerce. He is the vice chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment.
Cline also lives in Wheeling and was a former instructor at West Virginia University and George Mason University. She is a computational linguist.
Payne, of Keyser, is a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a partner in a law firm and a chief patent counsel.
Mooney, who lives in Martinsburg, was first elected to Congress representing District 2 in 2014 and was re-elected in 2016 and 2018. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee.
Hahn, of Berkeley Springs, is a family physician and owner of River Bend Family Medicine. He is a published author, the 2006 recipient of the Maryland Physician of the Year award and was the 2007 finalist for the American Family Physician of the Year award.
Kunkel, Charleston, co-founded Advocates for a Safe Water System and Rise Up WV.
