GRANTSVILLE -- Six people were arrested over the weekend in Calhoun County for kidnapping and malicious assault.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Calhoun County Magistrate Court, on May 7 law enforcement took statements from the two victims about what happened.

On May 5, Danny Edward Lane, 58, 315 River Road, Grantsville, asked the two victims to come to his residence because he wanted to talk to them, the complaint said.

After their arrival, Lane began accusing the two men of stealing his property and damaging his vehicle, according to the complaint.

While they were speaking, Lane's son went outside and became physically violent with the two men, the complaint stated. This son was not charged, according to the complaint.

Shortly thereafter, Shelbie Denise Lane, 52, of the same residence, released a large dog and commanded it to attack one of the victims while they were on the ground, the complaint said.

Their other son, Danny Edward Lane Jr., 19, of the same residence, went outside with a baseball bat and began hitting one of the two victims, who was struck in his chest, shoulder and torso, according to the complaint.

The victims were then told they would be taken home. When they got into a vehicle, they realized they weren't going home and weren't allowed to get out of the car, the complaint stated.

While they were riding in the vehicle, Jennifer Lynn Love, 43, 310 River Run Road in Grantsville, was holding a small pistol in the victims' view, the complaint said.

The group arrived at 2169 Rowles Run Road in Mount Zion, the residence of Abby Sturms, 51, and Victor Lee Carpenter, 53, and the vehicle was parked into the garage with the door shut, according to the complaint.

Lane removed one victim from the vehicle while the other victim remained inside. The victim inside watched as Lane beat the other victim with a wooden club, according to the complaint.

While that was taking place, Carpenter handed lane a cutting tool. Lane put the victims' hands inside the tool and threatened to remove three fingers each, the complaint said.

Carpenter also provided Lane with a blowtorch. Lance forced the victims to open up their hands as he held the flame to their hands, causing blisters and severe burns to one of the victims, the complaint said.

Lane also held a lit cigarette to one of the victim's faces and burned his skin, according to the complaint.

The victims then alleged they had to remove their pants. Lane cut the legs of the pants off and made them put the pants back on and referred to them as "Daisy Dukes," the complaint said.

Lane then told the victims to walk down the road and not look back, the complaint said.

The victims then said they heard a noise that was believed to be from a pistol.

While the victims were in the garage and the events were taking place, they claimed the other occupants in the house did nothing to stop Lane.

Sturms was charged with conspiracy, accessory and aiding and abetting and is being held at the Central Regional Jail with no bond.
