Health departments posting updates online

RIPLEY — The Jackson and Doddridge County Health Departments are using social media to provide updates of a different nature.

Although the Jackson County numbers are not reflected in Tuesday’s 6 p.m. update from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, the Jackson County Health department reported 68 have in the county been tested with 41 negative, 16 pending and 11 positive tests.

Of those patients who tested positive, six of those patients are deemed “success stories/survivors,” according to the Jackson County Health Department.

Although Doddridge County has not seen any positive cases, officials continue to update their numbers of tests.

As of Tuesday afternoon, they reported 19 tests with 13 negative results and six pending.

Monday evening the Doddridge County Health Department provided a more detailed update on its Facebook page.

“Doddridge County Health Department employees have been busy with surveillance activities to help slow or stop the spread of the virus to the fullest extent possible,” the post said.

Testing sites for Doddridge County are available at Ritchie Regional Health Center and Ritchie Regional Health Center, if the criteria is met.

The department said they are participating in several phone conferences to obtain information about how to manage those who are awaiting test results, who may believe they were in contact with the virus or community members who have recently traveled.

“Anyone (who) has traveled to our county from an area with widespread COVID-19 illnesses should self quarantine for 14 days,” the health department said. “Each day this person should track their symptoms and their temperature at least twice per day. If symptoms or high fever occur within those 14 days, the person should be further evaluated and if approved, should be tested for COVID-19.”
