PARKERSBURG - Three more Wood County residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department announced this afternoon.
That brings the total number of positive cases in the county to five.
The release did not provide additional information about the infected individuals.
Once they learn of a positive test, Health Department officials begin an investigation and reach out to people identified as having had contact with the individual, the release says.
People who have been in contact with someone with a confirmed case should remain at home, monitor their temperature twice a day and report any coughing, wheezing, sneezing or shortness of breath to their health care provider, as well as tell them they have been exposed. If the provider determines someone needs tested, the individual should stay home and refrain from contact with others until the test results come back, the department says.
The department reminds people to follow the governor’s stay-at-home order. If people must go out, they are urged to take every precaution - including physical distancing of at least 6 feet when standing in line for groceries and takeout, washing hands with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds and being aware of surfaces that may have germs.
"When people ignore the stay-at-home order, you may jeopardize not only yourself but all of those (with whom) you come in contact," the release says.
