MOVTA keeps bus routes running

By Candice Black 2 min read

PARKERSBURG -- Some bus services in outlying communities are temporarily suspending bus routes to all with the exception of life sustaining trips while Easy Rider continues their normal routes.

Mike Kesterson, general manager of the Mid-Ohio Valley Transit Authority, said their business is considered an essential provider.

"A lot of folks don't have cars to go out and get their supplies," he said.

If necessary, a backup plan will be implemented involving reduction of routes or a change in their times, Kesterson said.

In the event of the backup plan, Kesterson said they will continue to cover the same areas.

Easy Rider currently has seats roped off to ensure that riders keep their distance from one another. They've also posted a notice asking riders to limit their travels to essential trips.

"If they absolutely have to go somewhere, but not just to be out running around. We want people to stay in," Kesterson said.

Kesterson has been in contact with the Division of Public Transport.

"We're keeping an eye on things," he said.

Little Kanawha Bus, which services Calhoun, Roane, Jackson and Gilmer counties, is currently not running its normal routes but will still transport life sustaining passengers, manager Darlene Crane said.

This decision was made over the weekend, Crane said.

"(They) found one known case in our service area right at that time and that's what made the decision to keep people safe, not only the drivers but the passengers," Crane said.

Drivers are currently at home but will pick up passengers for life sustaining business on an as-needed basis. Employees will still be able to answer the phone, if anyone needs a ride for those purposes, they can call (866) 354-5522.

"Our drivers are on standby and we will make sure to get their need," Crane said. "We're doing our best to keep people safe and hopefully get things over sooner."
