PARKERSBURG -- The WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center closed its North Tower main entrance, effective immediately, in response to the COVID-19 concerns.

As the pandemic is spreading across the country, many institutions are taking steps to prepare their own communities.

''In an effort to keep our community safe, and in addition to our new visitation policy, we're closing one of the two North Tower Entrances effective immediately,'' according to a post on Camden Clark's Facebook page. ''Signage will direct you to use the Lower Level North Tower Entrance. Our South Tower Entrance remains open.''

The hospital's visitation policy was updated recently to limit the number of visitors.

''Because the safety of our patients and caregivers is our highest priority, WVU Medicine has implemented restricted visitation policies for all member hospitals in an effort to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19),'' Camden Clark's website said.

The revised hospital visitation policy includes:

∫ Minimal visitation is encouraged

∫ Individuals who are ill are not permitted to accompany patients.

∫ Patients may be accompanied by one adult; others are not to enter the facility.

∫ Children under age 16 are not permitted.

∫ Visitors are required to register and obtain a visitor's badge.

∫ All individuals are strongly encouraged to wash their hands.

Exceptions to these restrictions may be made on a case-by-case basis in special circumstances such as end-of-life, critical situations, etc.

Hospital entry is now restricted to the North Town lower level, the South tower ER entrance and the MOB-B main entrance.

The Lower Level North Tower Entrance will be closed after 8 p.m. where a security guard will be there from the hours of 8 p.m.-6 a.m., the website said.

The hospital's visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for general patients; restricted visiting for ICU and CVICU from 7 a.m.- 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m.; CVU (Intermediate Care) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Special Delivery Unit/Maternity from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Father/significant other may visit anytime; Pediatrics from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Parents may stay with children.
