BELPRE -- Belpre City Schools will begin delivering meals to 11 locations Monday for all Belpre youth.
Superintendent Jeff Greenley said Thursday officials would be calling families and would post flyers throughout the town outlining all of the times and places where meals will be available.
Greenley said the meals are free to any Belpre-area resident under the age of 18, including home-schooled students or students who live in the area, but attend school in a different district. The meals also are available regardless of family income level.
Meals will be available from 11-11:30 a.m. daily at Belpre Elementary School and Belpre High School. Three bus routes will run to deliver meals to nine other locations. Those locations and times are:
* 11 a.m.: Laurel Estates, Bob's Market, Wyatt and Roderick.
* 11:30 a.m.: Hill and Greenhill Village, Cross and Murray, Ridge and Stone.
* Noon: Poplar and Lee, Elizabeth and Talbot, Eighth and Florence.
"We'll start with (preparing) 300 meals and then ramp up or down depending on need," Greenley said. "We figure it'll take a week before we really know how many people will be there as they find out about the program."
The school system also will begin online Blizzard Bags for student lessons on Monday.
"Those are available through our website," Greenley said. "We would ask that families complete that work and submit it to their teachers electronically. We know that some families don't have internet access. Our school wifi does extend outside of our buildings. Moving forward everything is going to be digital, families need to start thinking about how to get to an internet source."
Greenley said the school system also can provide Chromebooks, up to two per family, if needed. Families can call Belpre City Schools central office at 1-740-423-9511 for more information.
By March 30, officials hope to have a distance-learning program in place, Greenley said.
