Two arrested in Lewis County firearms theft
SALEM — A man and woman were arrested Sunday in Lewis County on warrants set by the Doddridge County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly stealing a large cache of firearms, according to the Doddridge County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.
Maranda Christine Maxwell, 26, and Randy Allen Blake, 31, of 169 Virginia Ave., Apt. 101, Jane Lew, were taken into custody following an incident that took place in the beginning of January.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Doddridge County Magistrate Court, 19 stolen firearms were recovered from Maxwell’s residence.
On Jan. 5, a deputy sheriff responded to a larceny complaint at 3557 Miletus Road in Salem, the complaint said.
The alleged victim, Ricky Watson, said Maxwell, his niece who he had not seen for two years, pulled into his driveway and was at the residence for about 45 minutes, the complaint said.
The next day, Watson said, he noticed most of his firearms were missing from his basement, the complaint said. While the deputy was on the scene, Watson found out Maxwell was planning to leave the state for a fresh start, according to the complaint.
On Jan. 9, the deputy received information saying Maxwell’s residence in Jane Lew was broken into and several firearms were visible, the complaint said. After law enforcement obtained a search warrant, her residence was searched and several firearms were found matching the descriptions of Watson’s stolen items, according to the complaint.
After the seizure of the firearms, Watson was able to identify them as his property, the complaint said.
Another individual living at Watson’s residence also said she had items missing and Maxwell had allegedly tried to sell those missing items on Facebook, the complaint said.
The deputy believes Maxwell’s boyfriend Randy Blake also allegedly stole items from Watson’s residence.
Maxwell and Blake are being held on $50,012 bonds at the North Central Regional Jail.
