Parkersburg man charged with kidnapping, assault
PARKERSBURG — A man is being held without bond after allegedly holding his pregnant girlfriend against her will and assaulting her over four days at their Parkersburg home.
Adam Corey Abbott, 29, of 2602 Broad St., Parkersburg, was charged Friday with kidnapping, second-degree sexual assault, strangulation and malicious assault, according to a criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court. He was arrested at Camden Clark Medical Center four days after the woman was hospitalized and Parkersburg Police were notified.
The complaint says Abbott threatened his girlfriend with physical harm if she left. From Jan. 10 to Jan. 13, he sexually assaulted her multiple times, struck her with his fist and a baseball bat and pinned her down by her throat, it says, leaving “bruises all over her body.”
Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said the woman was able to escape the home on Jan. 13 and was picked up by a passing motorist. That individual dropped her off at St. Joseph’s Landing, a former hospital, for reasons that are unknown, he said. She was then hospitalized, and police were notified.
Because kidnapping is a capital offense that carries a potential life sentence, Abbott’s bond must be set in Wood County Circuit Court. He is in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County.
