Laugh recommended to co-head merged Jefferson Elementary
PARKERSBURG — McKinley Elementary School Principal Allen Laugh is being recommended to help head the merged Jefferson Elementary Center when it opens in the spring.
The recommendation will be up for a vote at the Wood County Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m. today in the board’s 13th and Plum streets offices in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public.
In October, the board voted to close McKinley and Worthington elementary schools and to merge them with Jefferson and Emerson elementary schools. The decision followed months of discussion and a week of closure hearings at the affected schools.
The board also approved the closure of Waverly Elementary School, which will merge with Williamstown Elementary when the new Williamstown-Waverly Elementary School opens in the spring.
Administrators today will recommend Laugh as principal of Jefferson effective July 1. Jefferson Principal Jodie Perotti will continue in her role as well, Superintendent Will Hosaflook said Monday.
“We are having two principals,” he said. The two will have “different areas of focus within the school.”
Hosaflook said Jefferson is the only Wood County school which will have two principals.
In other business, the board tonight will receive an update on construction and renovation projects, including progress on the new Williamstown Waverly Elementary, expansion of Williamstown High School into Williamstown High/Middle School, and expansion of the Wood County Technical Center in south Parkersburg.
The board will have a discussion on the district’s 2020-21 school calendar, as well as conduct recognitions, approve personnel changes and receive a report from the superintendent.
