Three local students among winners in art contest
CHARLESTON — Three students from elementary schools in Williamstown, Vienna and Kenna were among the 20 winners in the Student Artist Series Thank a Veteran contest sponsored by the wife of the governor.
The contest challenged third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students in West Virginia to submit hand-drawn cards, thanking veterans for their service and honoring them for the sacrifices made in service to the state and country.
Local winners were:
∫ Jaxson Myers, Kenna Elementary, Jackson County
∫ Liya Tewodros, Neale Elementary, Wood County
∫ Kayden Clark, Williamstown Elementary, Wood County
Students from 54 schools in 24 counties submitted 2,785 entries.
“I was so proud to see such an overwhelming response from our Thank a Veteran card initiative,” Kathy Justice, wife of Gov. Jim Justice, said. “It is wonderful to see students throughout the state showing support and gratitude to our veterans.”
Winning designers will each receive a $25 VISA gift card.
