PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation is kicking off its Give Local MOV 2020 campaign with a donation from a local business.
An event was held Tuesday at Superior Toyota Hyundai in Parkersburg, with officials announcing a $30,000 donation match from the dealership.
Give Local MOV 2020 will be held May 5 and gives area donors the chance to have their donations matched dollar-for-dollar. Last year's event raised more than $361,000 in 24 hours, with donations going to 51 local programs.
This year the Foundation hopes to have at least $175,000 in matching funds to make local donations go ever farther.
"It is amazing to see the success of this giving campaign," said Julie Posey, development and communications officer for the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation. "On this one day, your donation can be doubled, if not tripled in some senses, to support your favorite non-profits in your community."
Posey said 1,145 donors pledged money during Give Local MOV 2019, and she hopes to see that number increase in 2020.
"I don't necessarily have a goal for how much I want to raise," she said. "I find the greatest success in our giving day is when we see the number of donors increase. That means we have more people engaged and more people who are committed to supporting our organizations and community."
Superior Toyota Hyundai General Manager Tommy Hathaway said the dealership was thrilled to once again support the Give Local MOV event.
"We are so excited to help with this. It really is going to help our community grow," he said. "It has grown so much each year."
Judy Sjostedt, executive director of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, said raising funds for charitable organizations not only allows them to do work in their communities now, but also helps them create ongoing programs and funds for future projects.
"This isn't just money passing between us; this is love passing between the generations," she said. "This is why we exist: To take care of each other and to see each other improve."
