MARIETTA -- Marietta City Council's regular committee meetings continue this week irrespective of budgetary hearings.
Wednesday, Planning, Zoning, Annexation and Housing Committee met jointly with Streets Committee to hear preliminary findings from Marietta Main Street downtown signage survey.
Main Street Executive Director Cristie Thomas reported to the joint meeting that 40 downtown business owners were surveyed by the request of the committee chairs -- Susan Boyer and Geoff Schenkel -- about their views on downtown business signage.
"Over the last few years, there has been a very strong desire to reorient signage back to a pedestrian-geared approach in the C4 district," explained Thomas. "The goal is to have a walkable and vibrant downtown and potentially produce a guide to help walk business owners through how they can both follow the rules and set their businesses up for success."
She said with 40 businesses responding to the week-long survey hosted by Marietta Main Street, participants in the survey conducted by Thomas included:

Council members present received the data reported by Thomas Tuesday for further consideration in the next legislative cycle.
Other business:
Council also met Tuesday in a joint Finance Committee with Water and Sewer Committee and blessed additional sewer line repairs to collapsing lines near the Busy Bee Restaurant.
Pickering Associates Construction Manager Jim Wark explained to committee members that the additional needed repairs would come out of contingency funds for the sinkhole project and noted savings from unneeded work below Fort Street would help offset the cost of the additional repairs.
In a separate request, City Project Manager Eric Lambert asked council to bless a change order of $26,571.16 for the Alta-Lancaster streets water line replacement, which currently has Lancaster Street between Fort Harmar Drive and the top of Harmar Hill closed.
Lambert explained that the additional funds were needed for the relocation of a fire hydrant, valves, and extra water lines needed to reroute around uncharted utility lines below ground.
The total cost of the project is now estimated at $1,019,478.16.
Those change orders will appear for a vote before the full legislative body next week at council's regular business meeting, 7:30 p.m. at the Armory, 241 Front St., on Nov. 21.
