PARKERSBURG -- Jason Barone was arraigned Thursday in Wood County Magistrate Court on the charge of DUI resulting in death, following a motorcycle crash Oct. 11.
Magistrate Joe Kuhl set Barone's bond at a $30,000 property bond, which he was released on.
Melissa Barone, 37, of Parkersburg, was a passenger on the motorcycle driven by her husband, 36-year-old Jason Barone, which was traveling south in the 900 block of Division Street around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint states a vehicle pulled into their path, causing Jason Barone to lay down the motorcycle.
Melissa Barone was thrown from the vehicle and sustained injuries that led to her being pronounced dead at the scene, Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said.
Jason Barone was taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center and has since been released, the chief said.
Both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, Martin said.
"If he hadn't been speeding, this crash probably never would have happened," Martin said.
The investigation showed the motorcycle was traveling faster than the posted 40 mph speed limit, Martin said.
According to the criminal complaint, Jason Barone tested positive for alcohol, benzodiazepines and cannabinoids.
