ATHENS -- A woman injured in an accident on Monday on U.S. 33 died Friday morning, the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Frances C. Stover, 58, of The Plains died at Grant Medical Center in Columbus where she was flown by medical helicopter after the accident near Athens, according to the patrol. The accident happened around noon Monday.
Sara J . McGlumphy, 32, Belpre, was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra east on U.S. 33 west of E. State Street when a plastic tote and contents fell from the pick-up truck and landed on the road, the patrol said. Stover, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt east, stopped in the right lane of U.S. 33 to retrieve the tote and contents, the patrol said.
Bryan R. Wilson, 51, of Albany, who was driving a 2016 Kenworth truck, struck the Cobalt driven by Stover, the patrol said.
Stover, who was in the car, was taken to Ohio Health O'Bleness Ohio Hospital by Athens County EMS, then airlifted to Grant Medical Center. No other injuries were earlier reported by the patrol.
U.S. 33 was closed down to one lane for about three hours. The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
