Gov. Justice announces grants to support crime victims’ services

CHARLESTON -- Agencies serving people throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley will share in nearly $15 million in Victims of Crime Act Assistance sub-grants announced Monday by West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice.

The funds are awarded from the Office for Victims of Crime in the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs and administered by the Justice and Community Services section of the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety's Division of Administrative Services. The money will be used for direct services such as counseling, personal advocacy, court advocacy, client transportation and support services to victims of crimes including domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse and elder abuse. They will also support assistance to victims as they move through the criminal justice system.

A total of $14,847,817 was awarded to 81 public and private nonprofits. The recipients include:

∫ CAMC Health Education & Research Institute Inc. -- $256,480 to fund staff to provide direct services to child abuse victims in Jackson and Kanawha counties.

∫ Children's Listening Place -- $149,844 to fund staff to provide direct services to child abuse victims in Wood, Wirt, Pleasants and Ritchie counties.

∫ Family Counseling Connection Inc. -- $231,990 to fund staff to provide trauma therapy and direct services to victims of sexual violence, child abuse and domestic violence in Jackson, Kanawha, Boone and Putnam counties.

∫ Family Crisis Intervention Center Region V -- $310,383 to fund staff to provide direct services to domestic violence and sexual assault victims in Wood, Jackson, Ritchie, Wirt and Pleasants counties.

∫ Harmony Mental Health Inc. -- $504,420 to fund staff to provide trauma-informed mental health direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in Wood, Calhoun, Jackson, Wirt, Tyler, Wetzel, Kanawha and Berkeley counties.

∫ Harrison County Child Advocacy Center -- $283,824 to fund staff to provide direct services to child abuse and neglect victims in Doddridge, Harrison, Taylor and Barbour counties.

∫ HOPE Inc., Task Force on Domestic Violence -- $544,173 to fund staff to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking in Doddridge, Gilmer, Marion, Harrison and Lewis counties.

∫ Jackson County Commission -- $38,272 to fund staff in the Jackson County Sheriff's Department to provide direct services to crime victims.

∫ Roane County Commission -- $26,946 to fund staff in the Roane County Prosecuting Attorney's office to provide direct services to crime victims.

∫ TEAM for WV Children Inc. -- $418,348 to fund staff to provide direct services to child abuse and neglect victims in Calhoun, Jackson, Roane, Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam and Wayne counties.

∫ Upper Ohio Valley Sexual Assault Help Center Inc. -- $328,986 to fund staff to provide direct services to adult and child victims of sexual assault in Wetzel, Ohio, Hancock, Brooke and Marshall counties.

∫ Voices for Children -- $98,951 to fund staff to provide direct services to child abuse and neglect victims in Wood, Wirt, Pleasants and Ritchie counties.

∫ Wetzel County Commission -- $40,500 to fund staff in the Wetzel County Prosecuting Attorney's office to provide direct services to crime victims.

∫ Wetzel County Commission, Child Advocacy Center -- $70,368 to fund staff to provide direct services to child abuse and neglect victims in Wetzel and Tyler counties.

∫ Wood County Commission -- $74,183 to fund staff in the Wood County Prosecuting Attorney's office to provide direct services to crime victims.

∫ YWCA of Wheeling -- $255,923 to fund staff to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence and child victims in Wetzel, Ohio and Marshall counties.
