PARKERSBURG -- Wood County Schools will replace more than 200,000 square feet of roofing this summer.
At a recent meeting, Superintendent Will Hosaflook told the Wood County Board of Education the roof replacements at 10 facilities will be bid out this month.
"We're looking at about $2.5-2.8 million just in replacing roofs," Hosaflook said.
In 2016, Wood County voters approved a $41 million facilities bond which included $16 million for roof replacements throughout the county. Those projects are being staggered over several years to set up a repair and replacement cycle.
Hosaflook said Pickering Associates is the lead architectural group on the projects and has divided the roofs into three bid packages.
"We tried to make the packages very similar in terms of square footage," Hosaflook said.
Those bid packages and square footage replaced are:
Bid Package 1: Vienna Elementary School, Maplewood School youth reporting center in Vienna, Parkersburg High School boiler building and the Edgelawn maintenance facility in south Parkersburg. Total: 43,816 square feet.
Bid Package 2: Wood County Schools Transportation Building on 19th Street in Parkersburg, Fairplains Elementary and Neale Elementary schools. Total: 74,692 square feet.
Bid Package 3: Kanawha Elementary School, Edison Middle School, and the Vo-Ag building, weight room and octagon at Parkersburg South High School. Total: 79,883 square feet.
Bid Package 1 also includes flashing repair and tree trimming at Van Devender Middle School, Hosaflook said.
The administration is expected to bring bids to the school board at an upcoming meeting.
