VIENNA — As a way to jumpstart the boys basketball season, Rick Dobson, coach with the Kanawha Elementary Braves, thought it would be a fun idea to bring back a preseason holiday tournament event on Friday night.
“Back when I used to play, there was a holiday tourney, but it fell apart,” said Dobson.
The tournament, called the Shirt Factory Tip Off Classic, since the Shirt Factory sponsored the event, hosted 24 elementary basketball teams.
“The schools were sorted into three divisions based on school population, and the winners from each division faced off to be the tournament champions,” Dobson said.
The 24 teams were:

“All of the games played were just a way for the kids to squeeze in some extra practice before the season begins,” he said.
