Parkersburg PD arrest robbery suspects

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg Police investigated two robberies in as many days, and two suspects are now in custody.

Joshua Cole Kinney, 26, of 709 Hall St., Parkersburg, was arrested shortly after Gary’s Always Hot on Staunton Avenue was robbed early Saturday morning.

Michael Brandon Kirk, 29, of 1202 Swann St., Parkersburg, was apprehended Monday afternoon and charged in the Sunday night robbery of the Sheetz on Seventh Street.

Police were dispatched to Gary’s Always Hot, at 1416 Staunton Ave., Parkersburg, at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Greg Nangle. A clerk reported a man had entered the video lottery parlor, brandishing a knife and demanding money, according to a complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court.

The employee said the man held the knife near her stomach and she opened the cash drawer, the complaint says. The suspect then took $515 out and fled.

Officers located Kinney in a nearby alleyway, Nangle said. According to the complaint, he was sweating profusely, despite the cold temperature and being clad in shorts and a T-shirt.

Asked if he had weapons, the man said he had a syringe, but a frisk revealed a knife, as well as cash in the same pocket, in the amount and denominations reported stolen, the complaint says.

The suspect apparently removed a coat after committing the robbery, Nangle said, but his shoes matched the ones the suspect in the business’ surveillance video were wearing.

Kinney was arraigned on a charge of armed robbery and was in the North Central Regional Jail without bond, which must be set in Wood County Circuit Court.

Security footage also aided in the identification of Kirk, who allegedly entered the Sheetz at 1102 Seventh St. around 11:50 p.m. Sunday and walked up to a clerk, who had the cash register open, Nangle said.

“He told her he had a gun and demanded money,” he said. “The clerk was basically in shock. And so the guy reaches across the counter and grabs a wad of money out of the cash till.”

The suspect then fled, heading north toward Stephenson Avenue, Nangle said. Police arrested Kirk on Monday afternoon, also charging him on outstanding warrants for two counts of uttering and one count of grand larceny.

His bond was set at $35,000.

Starting at $2.99/week.
