First Lutheran announces Easter service schedule

PARKERSBURG – Easter Week services at First Lutheran Church, 19th and Plum streets, begins Sunday, according to the Rev. Ian B. Reid, senior pastor.

Palm Sunday service begins at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday School at 9:30 a.m.. The traditional worship service starts at 10:45 a.m. and the evening service at 6:30 p.m.

Holy Week has Maundy Thursday services at noon and 7 p.m.. Holy communion is celebrated at both services.

Good Friday evening Tenebrae service begins at 7 p.m. with the church youth in charge of the service.

The Rev. Emilie Theobald-Rowlands, Christ Lutheran, and the Rev. Jonathan K. Nettles, Christ/St. Andrews Methodist, will join Reid in conducting the Vigil of Easter service on 7 p.m. March 26 at First Lutheran.

Following the Saturday Vigil, the wooden cross in the church yard will be decorated with flowers.

Easter morning, youth will serve Easter breakfast from 9-10 a.m. Donations will be accepted for the sixth annual Youth Mission Trip in July to New York City.

The traditional Easter worship service is a combined service at 10 a.m. with no other services that day. The Eastlawn Brass performs in the 10 a.m. service.

The sanctuary will be decorated with greenery, lilies and tulips and celebrating the Risen Lord and the release of the 40 days of Lent.
