Smith arrested for butane honey oil, marijuana

ATHENS, Ohio – An Athens County man was arrested for allegedly growing marijuana and creating butane honey oil on Friday, officials said.

Kevin B. Smith, 34, of 799 Old State Route 33 in Shade, Ohio, was arrested on a charge of illegal manufacturing of a schedule I controlled substance, a second-class felony, according to a press release from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

Butane honey oil, commonly referred to as dabs, is a schedule I substance derived from marijuana, the press release said.

The Athens County Major Crimes Unit, assisted by the Hocking County Major Crimes Unit and the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at Smith’s residence on Friday, the press release said.

The search revealed 88 marijuana plants at various stages of growth, equipment suspected to be related to multiple marijuana growing rooms in the home, and the equipment to manufacture butane honey oil, the press release said.

The search also revealed dried marijuana suspected to be ready to be sold and $7,991 in cash, the press release said.
