Ambulance, pickup truck collide
PARKERSBURG – Three staffers with St. Joseph’s Ambulance Service were injured Saturday while responding to a call when their ambulance was struck by another vehicle.
Around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the ambulance was southbound on Market Street in response to a call when it was struck by a westbound pickup truck on Eighth Street in downtown Parkersburg, said Sgt. Scott Carpenter with the Parkersburg Police Department.
Carpenter said the ambulance’s lights and siren were in use and it had the green light at the intersection of Eighth and Market streets when it was struck by the truck driven by Clarence DeBussy, 61, of Ravenswood, after he ran the red light at the intersection. The collision caused the ambulance to strike a light pole at the intersection, Carpenter said.
DeBussy had no sign of injuries, Carpenter said.
The ambulance had no patients at the time of the accident, but driver Craig Withrow, 26, of Marietta, and passengers Eric Abilmona, 40, and James Dawson, 31, were all transported to Camden Clark Medical Center following the accident. All three were treated and released, hospital spokesman Tim Brunicardi said Saturday.
DeBussy was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and failure to obey a traffic control device, Carpenter said. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
