Utility board plans hydrant flow tests
PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Utility Board will flow test fire hydrants from Monday to Friday.
The following areas will be affected:
Monday: Smithfield Street, Jackson Avenue, Cornwall Street, Avery Street, Avery Court, and 11th Street.
Tuesday: Market Street, 9th Street, 6th Street near Phillips Court Alley,5th Street near the Salvation Army, 2nd Street and 3rd Streets near Avery Street.
Thursday: 25th Street and 26th Street near Avery Street, Covert Street near 24th Street, Parkersburg High School (rear) between Greasy Neale Drive and Stadium Drive, and the 2300 block of Ohio Avenue near Texas Roadhouse.
Friday: Murdoch Avenue near Big Sandy, 24th Street at the Recycling Facility, Garfield Avenue and 19th Street, and Park Shopping Center near Bob Evans.
Testing will begin around 9:30 a.m. and continue until complete. Testing determines the amount of water that can be safely accessed from a hydrant during firefighting.
The procedure requires hydrants to be flushed for several minutes and pressures to be collected during flushing. The process may result in discolored water in the distribution system in the areas of the testing process.
Should customers experience discolored water, flush lines through a cold water tap at a bathtub or utility sink. If the water does not clear within a few minutes contact the utility board at 304-424-8535 during business hours or 304-424-8532 after 4:30 p.m.
