Jug band to perform

1 min read

PARKERSBURG – The Juggernaut Jug Band on March 2-4 will tour elementary schools in the region in the Artsbridge Artists-on-Tour series.

Jug band music is a mixture of jazz, blues, swing and ragtime played on guitars, mandolins, washboards, spoons and jugs.

The Juggernaut Jug Band presents “Down On the Corner,” an interdisciplinary program for school children which looks at jug music as traditional American music.

Through music and humor, the program explores the evolution of ragtime, blues and folk music into more popular jug bands of the 1920s. Study guides, which examine this musical form, are disseminated by Artsbridge to all participating schools.

Artsbridge education programs are funded by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, the Bernard McDonough Foundation, Dominion Foundation and contributors to the United Arts Fund.
