PARKERSBURG -- Two Boys & Girls Club of Parkersburg staff members and a former board member recently received statewide honors for their work with the organization, according to a news release.

Darlene Murphy was named CEO of the Year by her colleagues, Vienna site unit director Crystal Barker received the Staff Member of the Year award and former board member Wes Tracewell was inducted into the West Virginia Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame.

Murphy, who is nearing her first anniversary as CEO, was recognized for her leadership, professionalism and management of the organization, according to the release.

"Receiving the CEO of the Year recognition after just shy of a year in this role is incredibly meaningful. I'm proud of the vision we've set for the Club, the progress we've made as an organization, and especially the opportunity I've had to advocate for our young people and the Boys & Girls Club movement locally, statewide and nationally alongside some incredible Club professionals," Murphy said.

Barker directs the Vienna site, which opened last year with funding from Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers, according to the release.

Murphy said she has known Barker for several years and praised her work ethic, creative ideas and commitment to club members.

Barker said she was surprised and honored by the recognition.

"I put my heart into what I do. I love the club and the club kids. I hope to continue my career with the club for many years," she said.

Tracewell served as the organization's board treasurer for a decade and was recognized for his financial expertise, according to the release.

Murphy credited Tracewell's financial knowledge and guidance with helping the organization through times when those skills were especially needed.

"His commitment to the Club and to ensuring its long-term financial strength has left a lasting impact on our organization and, most importantly, on the young people we serve," Murphy said.
