By Brett Dunlap 3 min read

PARKERSBURG - People are looking for hidden treasures and unique finds at the 2026 Trinity Episcopal Church Used Book Sale.

The sale, featuring hundreds of books over a variety of topics and genres, kicked off Wednesday at the church at 430 Juliana St. People can enter on the 5th Street side.

"We have a lot of people (Wednesday)," said Lynn Fury, book sale chairperson. "I think we have more people this year than we have had in the past.

"This book sale has been going on for 76 years and people really look forward to it."

The money made from the sale goes to a lot of community charities, including the Salvation Army, CASA and others, Fury said.

She said the sale is a destination for many people who plan for it every year. The church included a lunch Wednesday. Shoppers can buy hot dogs, soups or desserts for lunch on today and Friday.

A variety of people from around the community came to see what they could get.

Richard Thomas of Belpre said the sale was an annual tradition for him

"I always find something that I want," he said

It is an opportunity to look for books and titles that interest him with the hope of finding something unexpected.

"It is a great opportunity to get together and find some new inspiration in our troubled world," he said. "It is a way to stimulate the mind, keep sharp and focused on the things that are important."

Fury said people come looking for many things while others look to see what they can find.

"People are able to find a variety of books," she said. "They can get whatever they need on their lists.

"There are a lot of treasures to look for. It is a yearly event that a lot of people look forward to."

Jody Hayden of Parkersburg has been attending Trinity recently.

"I love book sales and I have been hanging around Trinity," she said. "They are really nice people.

"When I found out I could give back to the community and hang out with people I like and be able to get books, what a wonderful day."

Wednesday was the first time Hayden attended the sale.

"I am a little overwhelmed at the book selection to be honest," she said. "They don't just do a get together, it is an event and it turns into a soiree and they are the hostess with the mostest.

"This sounded like a great community event and I wanted to be a part of it."

Sale will be able to accept credit cards on today and Friday. On Saturday, Oct. 10, payment options return to traditional cash and check only.

The book sale hours are today, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 10, 9 a.m.-noon.

Fury said the sale is always a success because of their low prices.

"People can find just about anything they are looking for," she said.
