PARKERSBURG - Two celebrations on Saturday will bring art, music, food and fun to downtown Parkersburg.

Sponsored by the Parkersburg Art Center, the annual ArtOberfest and Chalk the Block will be held in the 700 and 800 blocks of Market Street.

Festivities begin with Chalk the Block from 1-5 p.m. in the 800 block, where artists of all ages will turn the sidewalk into a colorful outdoor gallery. Participants will create their works of art in chalk throughout the afternoon. The public is encouraged to watch the work take shape and vote for their favorites.

From 5-9 p.m., ArtOberfest takes over in the 700 block of Market Street for an evening celebration that will include live music, food, beverages, art vendors, shopping, galleries and seasonal fun. Admission is free, but donations can be made to the Parkersburg Art Center to support community programs and events.

Music will be a big part of the evening. The Debarr Stevens Trio will kick off at 5 p.m., followed by Levi and Hannah Westfall, then the 3M Acoustic Trio to close the evening.

A varied collection of artists from the region will offer photography, paintings, handmade jewelry, pottery, textiles, sculpture, woodturnings, glass mosaics, crocheted creatures, tie-dye clothing, handmade home décor, custom gifts, 3D-printed creations, Appalachian-inspired cards and stickers, suncatchers, essential oils, leather journals, books, homemade sourdough and sweet treats.

Artists and vendors include Walker ArtForms, Toscano in Appalachia, Pretty Paula's Pages, Nicole Harris Art, Snark and Soul, Mosaico di Veltro, Artbeat Studio, Rusty Nesmith Woodturning, Brush and Hook, Glitzern Boutique, Plastics by Mark, Hearthstitch, Good Grief Tie Dyes, Appalachian Weird, Pickled Joy, Mystic Moon Gift Shop, Stitch Spell Crafts, J & T Bakery and Brock Pribble.

"Chalk the Block and ArtOberfest are designed to celebrate the creativity already happening in our community and invite everyone to be part of it," Jessica Siefert, managing and education director for the Art Center, said. "Come for the chalk art, stay for the music, shop with local artists, grab something good to eat and enjoy an evening on Market Street."
